Waiting Room

This is a scene that i witnessed at a hospital while waiting for my  appointment.  I was absorbing the contrast between the veiled figure of the mother, her burka being a statement about her fundamentalist values, and a little girl on her lap, playing with the very symbol of the  world opposite to hers – a Barbie.

I couldn´t help but wonder how it would be for this little girl to grow up surrounded by such contradictory ideas; how she will react when, at a certain age, she will no longer be allowed to wear the clothes she would like and probably will have to cover even her face. That, of course, is the answer for the future – while we are waiting.
