Technically a classicist, with skills honed to re-master 17th century realism, Natalie Holland contemporizes her canvases with strikingly modern themes and modern-day contemplative portraiture.
With a rich palette and the subtleties of fine chiaroscuro, Natalie Holland imbues her contemporary subjects with an almost haunting timelessness and dream-like mystique. Their slow, contemplative and often direct-given gazes, give to her subjects an explicitness that belie their complexity. Set within frameworks that either are fantastical or controversial, these figures -despite their transparencies- remain enigmatic. This contradiction is common for many of Holland´s paintings and has naturally been a facet for review in many of her exhibitions.
Holland has exhibited worldwide, establishing new teams and collaborative partnerships for each of her projects. She is based in London, yet works also from her studio in Oslo, Norway.
